I remember this card. I always used Nvidia, but because this card had better specs on paper, I bought the Radeon. What a mistake! It had great specs, but it was cursed with micro-stutters. I was so upset at the poor visual quality and game play that I never bought ATI/AMD again. Thank you for the video.

there was old agp that used the on board ram !!! plus it's ram on the old 32bit systems !!! I p[ayed halflife 2 on it a p4 witha 256mb agp card. system used the first 4 gb ram then the agp used the rest !!! I payed with this setup till I finally had to do windows 7 2012. then 7 till a few years ago now on 11 !!! the 7 pro was a i-7 2600k 4.5ghz 16gb ram rx 550 4gb slow version. at 60-100 fps gaming with fornite and warzone when it first showed up for both fornite and warzone (and ps4(fps ?) when it showed up)!!! then now ps5 and good computer systems !!!

Great video (and guide). This is what I did to my (same shape cooler) Quadro 2000 a while back. I also modded the BIOS and went a bit further adding UEFI support (just in case I want to use with systems that need that). I do same with almost all my older GPUs. Watched a few other of your vids and subbed. Would be rude NOT to! (EDIT: Also I got 780/1900 clocks baked into BIOS with Quadro voltages and power budget not GTS450 ones and see a 30% boost in performance over stock Quadro)

I had X1800XTs crossfired. Crossfire was a different animal with these cards. It required a crossfire card and a regular card. They were connected by a dongle which in turn connected to your monitor cable. It wasn't a hassle as much as it was kind of confusing to look at. By the time I moved on crossfire had become like SLI, just used a bridge with the 3870s. When you got a set of X1800XTs hot and running hard it sounded like your PC was taxiing for takeoff. It was that loud.

Must admit the 7800 GTX did better than expected, but yeah it's such a cool generation, will you be able to do the 7900 GTX vs 1950 XTX?

I came in the pc scene around the radeon 3000 series where apparently all gpu manufacturers shifted to a unified architecture. I never knew that the differences in gpu design could effect render output other than framerate and frametimes.

actually "dedicated external ram" for iGPU sounds a good idea, if on laptops you can select which RAM stick will be exclusively used by iGPU without interference with operating system on laptop with too many RAM slots and you're fine dedicating few sticks of it for iGPU

I tried to get a 7800GTX 512 at the time. Only two batches where actually shipped. Got the 7900GTX a few months later.

Excellent video. It's crazy to see how much the 7000 series cards stumble in later games, a 256MB GTX wouldn't have stood a chance in this suite. I'm always surprised by how much the X1900 series manages to widen the gap, with it having the same well aging architecture as the X1800 XT and triple the pixel shaders it can do some amazing things in those later games, while the 7900 GTX's extreme clocks on what was pretty much the same GPU aren't enough to make up for its deficiencies.

Be sure to check out the wonderful unstable world of Omega Drivers for ATI too. They don't add any more features, but do allow overclocking. Don't know if nVidia had something similar from back then. No clue if they are even still around.

Never heard of this, I remember TNT2 Vanta 32MB was already dirt cheap, it was so low end that I only seen TNT2 Vanta in pre-builts.

This kind of reminds me of what should have happened instead of SLI (Nvidia) and Crossfire (AMD). As the 2nd cards Ram was redundant they should have made a GPU card only for the 2nd slot which would have been quite a bit cheaper. But I guess the profit from selling 2 cards meant that was never going to happen.

Does the module replace the need of shared ram, or works along with the shared ram?

It would appear that AIMM consistently improves performance regardless of what you do to the RAM, so the obvious conclusion is that it should be used in addition to RAM tuning.

I remember when the 82810/815 arrived many people were skeptical about the iGPU and called it a graphics decelerator. Honestly, Intel had ideas at the time, but they were rather still coasting from the i740 issues that were still looming over them.

I remember running 3dmark2001 with then current hardware and it chugging along. I installed and had a go with my current setup and got a score of 38246. Thanks for a fun bit of nostalgia and showing some neat hardware I always thought should have existed but never knew it did.
